Why Huatulco

49cc7e50b407108d75a4faee3903a82337f7bd83.jpg

The Sierra Madre mountains tumble directly into nine pristine bays here. There are no high-rise towers, no concrete canyons. Local regulations keep building heights low and the treeline dominant. Over 70% of the surrounding area is a protected ecological reserve, home to 34 species of mammals and 291 species of birds.

In 2005, Huatulco became the first community in the Americas to receive green globe certification. It has since reached EarthCheck Platinum status, the gold standard for sustainable tourism. It was designed from the start with sustainability as the blueprint, not as an afterthought.

For a family that had lived across continents and saw what unchecked development does to a coastline, this mattered. Huatulco felt like a secret worth keeping.
